We Need Carrie Fisher Now More Than Ever

The world lost the irreplaceable Carrie Fisher five years ago today. It’s hard to believe that we’ll never get Carrie’s take on the pandemic. Her signature wit during this three year long train wreck would have carried us through the darkness. She sprinkled joy on those who needed it the most. Princess Leia was my childhood hero. Carrie Fisher dances circles around her.

The loss hits harder because Carrie normalized mental health struggles. She shared her journeys to Hell and back plus everything in between. In doing so, she eclipsed Princess Leia’s heroism. A long time ago, In a world not too far away…it wasn’t okay to talk about one’s mental health. Would my great aunt Billie have not taken her own life if her generation had a Carrie Fisher?
